On April 1-7, 2013, Lapu-Lapu City will proudly host the country’s first-ever “Tennis Festival Week“.
Events include the 14th PHILTA Tru-Flex National Age-Group Tennis Tournament, which will be on April 1-6, and the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II (Philippines V.S. Thailand) from April 5-7.

On April 1-6, the PHILTA Tru-flex Tournament – considered one of the biggest age-group tennis tournaments in the country – is going to be held in different tennis courts or venues in Lapu-Lapu City, including Paseo de Amores, Lapu-Lapu City Tennis Court, Haruhay Dream Resort, and possibly in Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base.
More than 300 tennis players from all over the country and tennis players from Hong Kong and Thailand are expected to join the event. According to Randy Villanueva, Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) vice president, this would be the first time that the PHILTA Tru-Flex Tournament is held outside Manila and will have foreign participants.
The matches on April 1-4 will be played for the whole day while on April 5-6, the matches will be played only in the morning so that the participants would have a chance to watch the Davis Cup Philippines vs Thailand.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Lapu-Lapu City’s hosting of the Davis Cup 4 and the 14th PHILTA Tru-Flex National Age-Group Tennis Tournament was signed by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz C. Radaza, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa general manager Efren Belarmino, City Councilor and Sports Committee Chairman Harry Don Radaza, Cebuana Lhuillier area manager Dino Manso and Smart project specialist Paulo Miguel Dizon.

The advantage for letting the participants of PHILTA Tru-Flex Tournament watch the Davis Cup is to give the Philippine team more chances of winning the tournament.
