Every February, the municipality of Mactan holds the Sr. Sto. Niño celebration, which continues Cebu City’s grand festival, Sinulog, in January.
This great fiesta has become a part of the tradition of Oponganons or Lapu-Lapu residents.
One of the events held during the celebration is the Sinulog Competition. It is a much-awaited event especially by those living in Barangay Mactan. This year, it was held in front of the Mactan Parish Church.
Participants and spectators, young or old, did not mind the heat, and even the tourists came to watch the competition. The dancers gave their all in their performance, and they were there not just to dance but show devotion to the Sr. Sto. Nino.
The crowd clapped their hands and cheered every tribe, which performed routines that the spectators will surely remember until the next Sinulog Kapistahan in Mactan.
